We are just 9 days from departure for our much-anticipated trip! First will be a week in Iceland, followed by 2 weeks in Ireland and Northern Ireland. We are meeting up with friends in Iceland and will spend the first week traveling with them.
We have never been to Iceland and we're looking forward to the epic scenery and waterfalls, though perhaps not looking forward to the rain and wind - we've heard the wind can be pretty fierce there. We're renting a car and our itinerary includes the south coast, the golden circle and the Snaefellsness Peninsula. It's lots of driving and we'll be changing hotels almost every night as well.
Mike and I have been to Ireland before (2012) basically focused in the southern half of the island and had some great experiences, so we are really looking forward to traveling the northern half on this trip. We'll be doing lots of driving here too - it's a good thing we enjoy road trips! We land in Dublin but immediately leave that city and start a clockwise route that includes castles, beaches, cliffs, and lots of history.
I'm pretty excited but I also have my usual pre-trip anxiety. Wondering if I've forgotten something or should have booked something that I didn't, and are we packing enough or too little? It always happens to me in that final week before we leave.
