Suntanning in Scotland

While we were in Ayr, there was some sort of heat wave going on. We had gone from colder than average temperatures in Ireland where we were freezing all the time, to hotter than normal temps in Scotland that had me yearning for a pair of sandals and shorts! Ayr has a nice beach with an esplanade, so there were a lot of people enjoying the sun and water. I have to say that I have never seen (and I live in California) a larger group of sunburnt people in my life. Every conceivable shade of red was represented, though most were of the lobster-red hue.

  1. This is why I think I'm Celtic in origin-red haired with lily white skin. Mike says I'm not pale--I'm just simply CLEAR!!! We were also there during a heat wave--no rain for almost 2 weeks and of course nobody has air conditioning. There are never any screens on the windows, so you open one to get some air into the room and here come the bugs, birds, and squirrels (if you happen to be staying somewhere with a thatched roof. I actually went next door to the castle (Stirling) gift shop to get a couple of short sleeved tees as soon as we got to the hotel.
