Kenmare/Killarney

We spent 2 nights in Kenmare, a smaller town on the Kenmare River between the Beara and the Iveragh peninsulas. We had a couple of really good dinners here and enjoyed some Irish music. We also found a self-serve laundromat so we were able to do laundry, which was nice. We made a trip to Killarney National Park via a scenic drive through Moll's Gap. Great views over the Lakes of Killarney but it was windy, raining and cold up there. The rain had pretty much stopped by the time we saw the turnout for the trail to the Old Weir Bridge, so we decided to walk in and have a look. It was a nice walk, 2km I think, through the woods with lots of rhododendrons just starting to bloom. After we saw the bridge, we stopped at Torc Waterfall turnout and took the short walk up to see the fall, very pretty. We then drove on to Muckross House and Gardens. One of the owners of this estate was the owner of the Empire Mine in Grass Valley and also Filoli Estate down in Woodside. We toured the house and then walked out to Muckross Abbey, about 1km away or so. After exploring there, we decided to head into Killarney for some ice cream. Killarney was quite a busy place, so we just had our ice cream and headed back to Kenmare.
